Tulips

Standard

In the 16th century tulips were as valuable as diamonds in the Netherlands.  People invested their entire family fortunes in one bulb.  When the tulip market crashed the Dutch were devastated.   Their small fortunes reduced to the value of a sack of onions.  Depressing.  BUT!  The Dutch picked themselves up and went on to become a founding member of the European Union, the OECD and the World Trade Organization.  They have a tulip festival every year.  I’m having a miniature one right now in my office.  My husband had two dozen delivered to my office for Valentine’s Day.  The pink ones are still alive.  I love having them around.
